5 Popular Garage Door Styles This Year and Next
Are you looking to update your home's curb appeal in 2021?
Did you know that a new garage door ranks as one of the top home improvements for money well spent? YES. Yes it does!
But don't take our word for it. Annual Remodeler's Cost vs. Value Reports, realtor.com publications as well as the National Association of Realtors agree too! In other words, you can't go wrong with a new garage door. (We've provided a link below for all the details.)
Because we talk to homeowners every single day about new garage doors, we - at ProLift - have first-hand insights to popular styles, colors, materials and door brands that St. Louis homeowners prefer. Here are five...
Traditional steel garage doors with raised panels
A favorite garage door style for most ANY home is a steel door with raised panels. Why? Because the look is standard, symmetrical, traditional, and widely accepted as 'a classic'. Aesthetic-wise, a raised-panel door can be subtle or it can stand out. Best of all, this type of garage door will work with most ANY architectural home style. But steel isn't the only version of a raised panel door. These doors can be found in wood or faux wood, aluminum and fiberglass too.

Insulated garage doors of all styles and materials
Homeowners in St. Louis - and elsewhere for that matter! - more often than not, opt for a well built garage door with built-in polyurethane insultation. Why? The obvious answer is to maximize a home's energy efficiency for environmental reasons AND to reduce utility bills. But did you know that an insulated garage door has other benefits too? Yep it does and these include: it acts as a buffer to reduce outside noise, it is extra quiet during operation and insulation adds strength to the door's construction. Best of all, with today's insulated garage doors, there's no need to sacrifice style or preferred materials. Heck, even all-glass panel garage doors are made with insulation and garage door windows can be insulated too!

Faux wood garage doors and garage doors with wood overlays
Over the years, garage door manufacturers have improved faux wood garage doors to truly emulate the natural beauty of solid wood. As a result, wood lookalikes have become oh-so-popular with door construction from steel, composites or fiberglass with either a wood grain or painted wood appearance. The benefits of faux wood doors compared to solid wood include: low maintenance with greater energy efficiencies, lighter in weight yet more durable, plenty of curb appeal with an assortment of styles and color tones, and budget-friendly with a range of price points for any and all homeowners.

Garage doors in dark colors
What are the trending garage door colors nowadays? Well, in St. Louis - and elsewhere around the country - homeowners who follow the most recent and hottest trends have been particularly interested in darker color doors. BUT that doesn't mean that traditional classics like white, beige and light gray aren't wildly popular too. Yet, when it comes to darker hues, black, charcoal gray, slate, dark browns and deep wood tones are the current favorites. A few folks even opt for the boldest door color of all.... red!

Garage doors with windows or even all glass panels
Another popular trend for garage door design continues to be (1) garage doors with windows and (2) garage doors with ALL glass panels. No matter the style - traditional, contemporary, carriage house, mid century modern and more - there's a window design to complement the look. An ALL glass garage door works best, however, for contemporary, modern, midcentury and industrial architecture.

- Raised panel garage doors are well-liked by homeowners because they're 'stylistically versatile'.
- Built-in polyurethane insulated garage doors are a must-have feature to ensure energy efficiency, reduced utility bills and sound control.
- The new year is already 'knocking at the door' and homeowners interested in the latest trends are flocking to low maintenance faux wood garage doors as well as darker door colors for 2021 and beyond. The 'classics' are always in style too so don't be afraid to stick with them if you prefer a timeless garage door option!
- And no matter your style, adding a window option to your door is a great choice too. If you're striving for a modern look, consider all-glass panels.
- But no matter what, when you update your garage door, you'll up your home value! Want to see the industry report in full? Just go here: 'Remodeling Cost vs Value Report'.
