Greg Headen has a diverse and impressive career journey. He was born and raised in Siler City, NC to a father who owned laundromats, car washes, and a used car dealership alongside working in manufacturing facilities overseeing machinery. His mother worked in floristry and managed a local drug store. Greg obtained an accounting degree from Appalachian State University where he met his wife, Shelly. Greg began his career as a CPA at McGladrey, now RSM, an international CPA firm in Greensboro. He later became a partner of The Colonial Group, a managing general insurance agency, where he served as CFO for 23 years. Greg’s remarkable journey in the corporate world continued until 2022 when he decided to sell his interest in The Colonial Group and pursue cattle farming. He raises over 100 angus beef cattle in Guilford and Rockingham counties.
In December of 2022, after experiencing the frustration of garage door repairs in the home where he raised his three daughters, Greg was inspired to purchase the franchise, Prolift Garage Doors of Greensboro. The business went live in April of 2023. What truly sets Prolift apart from its competitors is its unwavering commitment to honesty, fair pricing, and exceptional customer service. Unlike most other garage door companies whose technicians work on commission, Prolift’s technicians are salaried employees. This means they prioritize offering the best solution for customers, not trying to upsell products or services that might not be necessary.
Shelly HeadenOwner
Greg’s wife, Shelly Kates Headen, born to a high school teacher and principal, grew up in southern Virginia, and relocated to North Carolina during her high school years. Shelly’s academic journey led her to Appalachian State University, where she graduated summa cum laude and ranked second in the College of Business. She too began her career at McGladrey, now known as RSM, an international CPA firm in Winston-Salem, NC. After leaving the public accounting firm, Shelly spent eight years as a corporate accounting manager of a pharmaceutical company and later became a recruiter in the accounting field. However, her most rewarding role came when she decided to become a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters. During this time, she served as Co-Treasurer of her children’s PTSO, coached her daughter’s youth cheerleading team, and volunteered at church.
Greg and Shelly’s oldest daughter, Hannah, followed in her mother’s footsteps beginning her career at RSM and is now a Staff Accountant for a pharmaceutical company in Raleigh. Their second daughter, Madison, graduated with highest distinction from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in nutrition research and chemistry. She is currently working in medical research in Boston while she applies to medical school. Their third daughter, Meredith, is a student at UNC Chapel Hill and also works part-time with her sister’s pharmaceutical company.
